The issue of...

Has anyone experienced the road challenge of the local Maywood youth?

I have!

Several young teenagers recently blocked my car while I was making the turn-around by the Maywood Post Office (Palmer Ave). Not only were they causing unsafe traffic conditions, they were also riding their bicycles in the dark without the state mandated lighting. Someone is going top get hurt or killed!

Evidently the police do patrol Pleasant Ave in the evenings but have either been unable
to or unwilling to control them!

  1. i have never seen so many ADULTS running the stop signs on the side roads that lead to pleasant ave! particularly by the apts and the maywood market! i have more then once slammed on my brakes and as the dog groomer in town, everything goes crashing inside my work area when i have to do this!
I am really tired of people thinking the MIDDLE of the intersection IS the stop sign. The teenagers I suppose are trouble at night but I think the adults are far worse.

  2. I think the ADULTS enjoy running the stop signs, and trying to run down pedestrians in the crosswalks!

The streetscape bump-outs help to shorten the crosswalks, but since no one EVER gets ticketed for NOT STOPPING for pedestrians in the crosswalks it has almost become a sport.

Drivers through any other town in NJ would not DARE to drive though a crosswalk while a pedestrian was there.

    Just my two cents.

  3. I do not drive so I walk all the time and I have to say most NJ drivers have zero respect for the pedestrian. I always cross either at the light or I always walk within the crosswalk and the drivers don't care they just keep going even when they are a block away and I'm in the middle of the crosswalk they don't slow down. some of these drivers should try to cross Passic ST one day and then they will know what I'm talking about. It sometimes takes me 10 min. just to cross the street. there is no light or crosswalk from Rochelle Ave to Maywood Ave. something needs to be done about that.

  4. I also find people ignoring stop signs. Why not put speed bumps also? Cars would stop for sure.

  5. There is a difference between running a stop sign and a "rolling stop." They will both get you tickets, of course, but many drivers may come short of a complete stop if it's visibly safe, just as they might if there were no stop sign.

To say running signs is a "sport" makes no sense to me. I am both driver and pedestrian. I see far more pedestrians making foolish choices. They may have the "right of way," but that does not give them the right to step into traffic.

First post here, by the way.
